Tonight, we are chanting Vespers for Cheesefare Saturday, commemorating all our God-bearing Fathers and Mothers who shone forth in asceticism.

As we stand at the threshold of Great Lent, the Church places before us the luminous example of the ascetic saints. Through fasting, vigilance, humility, and unceasing prayer, they purified their hearts and became living temples of the Holy Spirit. Their lives testify that repentance is the gateway to joy and communion with God.

The readings from Zechariah 8:7–17 and 8:19–23 proclaim the Lord’s promise of restoration, peace, and truth. Even seasons of fasting are transformed into gladness when embraced with sincerity and hope. In these prophetic words, the faithful are encouraged to undertake the Lenten journey with trust in God’s mercy.
