On March 11, the Orthodox Church commemorates St. Sophronios, Patriarch of Jerusalem, a devoted defender of the Orthodox faith and faithful shepherd of Christ’s flock. His life and witness reflect the humility and steadfast confession that Great Lent seeks to cultivate within every believer.
The appointed reading from Isaiah 10:12–20 calls us to recognize the danger of pride and the necessity of relying wholly upon the Lord. The prophet speaks of purification and the return of a faithful remnant. In these solemn Lenten days, the Church invites us to become that faithful remnant—repentant, humble, and rooted in trust.

On March 11, the Church commemorates St. Sophronios, Patriarch of Jerusalem, a devoted shepherd and defender of the Orthodox faith. His theological insight and pastoral courage strengthened the Church in times of doctrinal challenge and continue to inspire the faithful today.
The appointed readings from Genesis 7:1–5 and Proverbs 8:32–9:11 invite reflection and renewal. Noah’s obedient entrance into the ark reveals the saving power of trust in God. The voice of Wisdom in Proverbs calls us to understanding and reverent fear of the Lord. In the context of Great Lent, these Scriptures guide us toward repentance, discernment, and deeper communion with Christ.

On March 6, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Forty-Two Martyrs of Amorion, whose steadfast confession of Christ in the face of persecution reveals the depth of faith and courage to which every Christian is called. Their endurance encourages us as we persevere in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
The appointed readings from Genesis 5:1–24 and Proverbs 6:3–20 guide the faithful in watchfulness and wisdom. The account of Enoch, who walked with God, calls us to intimate communion with the Lord. The exhortations in Proverbs urge us to humility, discipline, and moral clarity.
