Glory to Jesus Christ!
On October 20, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Great-Martyr Artemius, one of the Church’s courageous witnesses for Christ. A high-ranking military commander under Emperor Constantine, St. Artemius later suffered martyrdom under Julian the Apostate for boldly confessing his faith. His life reminds us that devotion to Christ sometimes calls us to stand firm even when the world stands against us.
Through his unwavering courage, St. Artemius demonstrated that true victory is not found on the battlefield, but in faithfulness to the Lord. Even in the face of suffering, he proclaimed Christ as King of all, inspiring generations of believers to live with conviction and hope.
Today’s Scripture Readings
The appointed readings for today call us to perseverance and humility:
Philippians 2:12–16 – St. Paul exhorts us to “work out our salvation with fear and trembling,” shining as lights in the world through obedience and faith.
Luke 9:18–22 – Christ reveals to His disciples that He must suffer, die, and rise again, teaching us that the path to glory passes through the cross.
