Who is St. Anthony of the Kievan Caves?
On July 10, the Orthodox Church celebrates the life and legacy of Our Venerable Father Anthony of the Kievan Caves, also known as the founder of monastic life in the land of Rus’. Born in the 11th century, St. Anthony sought the ascetic life on Mount Athos and later returned to Kiev, where he dug a small cave for prayer and solitude. His holiness attracted many disciples, giving birth to the famous Kievan Caves Lavra.
St. Anthony’s legacy continues to inspire Orthodox Christians around the world to pursue humility, prayer, and spiritual discipline. His feast is a reminder of the power of stillness and dedication to God in a world full of distractions.
