Glory to Jesus Christ!
On August 14, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Pre-Feast of the Dormition of the Birthgiver-of-God and commemorates the Holy Prophet Micah.
The Pre-Feast of the Dormition of the Birthgiver-of-God:
The Dormition, or "falling asleep," of the Theotokos is one of the most important feasts in the Orthodox Church. As we prepare for this feast, we honor the life of the Virgin Mary, who bore Christ in her womb and remains a symbol of purity, humility, and deep faith. The Pre-Feast celebrates the anticipation of her death and glorious assumption into heaven, reminding us of her role as the Mother of the Church and intercessor for all believers.
The Holy Prophet Micah:
On this day, the Orthodox Church also commemorates the Holy Prophet Micah, who prophesied during the 8th century BC. Micah’s messages of justice, humility, and hope have profound relevance today. He is best known for the passage: "What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8). His words serve as a powerful reminder of God’s call to righteousness and compassion.
