Gerald Largent
Glory to Jesus Christ!
On September 22, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Hieromartyr Phocas of Sinope, a faithful bishop and shepherd of the Church who endured martyrdom for his unwavering devotion to Christ. Known for his love, humility, and care for his flock, St. Phocas inspires us to live with steadfast faith and to offer our lives in service to God and others.
Today’s Scripture Readings
The prescribed readings for this day remind us of the power of faith and perseverance:
Galatians 4:28–5:10 – St. Paul exhorts us to live as children of the promise, holding fast to the freedom we have in Christ.
Luke 3:19–22 – The account of John the Baptist’s bold witness and Christ’s baptism, revealing the Holy Trinity and affirming the mission of the Savior.
