Glory to Jesus Christ!
On November 22, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Apostles Philemon, Apphia, Archippus, and Onesimus of the Seventy.
These four saints—early disciples and co-laborers of the Apostle Paul—played pivotal roles in the life of the apostolic Church. Philemon, a beloved fellow-worker of Paul, hosted a church in his home and received the short but profound Epistle to Philemon. Apphia, honored as a motherly figure in the faith, offered hospitality and protection to persecuted Christians. Archippus is remembered for his pastoral leadership and the exhortation to “fulfill the ministry” entrusted to him. Onesimus, once a runaway servant, became a model of repentance and later a bishop, a living testimony to the transformative power of the Gospel.
Their collective witness highlights the beauty of Christian fellowship, repentance, perseverance, and sacrificial love—virtues that remain at the heart of the Church’s life today. As we reflect on their example, we are reminded that every believer is called to serve Christ with courage and humility, trusting that God can transform every life for His glory.
