On June 3, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Lucillian and those with him: Claudios, Hypatios, Paul, Dionysios, and Paula. Their steadfast confession of Christ amid persecution stands as a powerful witness to the strength granted by God to those who remain faithful in times of trial.
The Scripture readings for this service are Romans 1:18–27 and Matthew 5:20–26. In these passages, the faithful are reminded of the call to repentance, purity of heart, and reconciliation with one another. Christ teaches that true righteousness is not merely outward obedience, but a life transformed inwardly through love, mercy, and communion with God.
