Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory Forever!

On August 21, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Apostle Thaddeus of the Seventy, as well as the Holy Martyr Bassa and her sons. The Apostle Thaddeus proclaimed the Gospel, while Saint Bassa and her sons displayed a family’s united courage in Christ.

Today’s Scripture readings are 2 Corinthians 7:10–16 and Mark 2:18–22. The readings distinguish godly sorrow from despair and present fasting as longing for Christ the Bridegroom. The saints commemorated today show repentance and missionary courage bearing fruit in faithful lives.
